The brief
Build an age-gated WooCommerce store combining lifestyle commerce with editorial community content. Brand identity is confidential under NDA.
The problem
Age-restricted commerce has to verify age before any product is shown, without that gate destroying the experience for returning customers or blocking search engines from the content pages entirely.

Technical challenges
Age gating that does not break every visit
Verification runs before product content is reachable but persists for the visitor afterwards, so a returning customer is not re-gated on every page view while the compliance requirement is still satisfied on first contact.
Variable products with reliable stock
Products span multiple configurations that share stock. Variations were modelled so stock decrements resolve against the right pool, preventing the overselling that happens when variants are set up as independent products.
Editorial content alongside the store
Community and blog sections run in the same install as the storefront, sharing the theme and navigation, so content and commerce reinforce each other instead of living on a separate subdomain.
Outcome
A custom WooCommerce build with persistent age verification, correctly pooled variable-product stock, and integrated editorial sections. Brand details remain confidential under NDA.
